Following is a listing of groups and organizations pulling together to provide aid to animals in the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina. This listing is by no means all inclusive. There are many organizations and individuals working to provide relief and support. Where possible, we have at least verified that the following groups are 501(c) 3 charitable, non-profit organizations using Guidestar.  If you know of a group providing support that is not listed here, please forward the information to our Webmaster for possible inclusion.

 of the United States
Will be providing on site emergency support. Helps all animals.
North Shore Animal League Will be providing on site emergency support. Help focused on dogs and cats.
Houston ASPCA The Houston ASPCA has taken in 260 animals from the Louisiana ASPCA. Houston does accept and adopts out ferrets. Houston is seeking financial donations.
Noah's Wish  Will be providing on site emergency support. This organization focuses strictly on disaster relief.
United Animal Nations Will be providing on site emergency support. Broadly focused organization with an extensive background in disaster relief.
International Ferret Congress Ferret education organization presently supporting communications and facilitating information sharing. The IFC has a special ferret support fund in place and is seeking additional donations to their Emergency Love Fund - ELF - designed to provide direct aid to shelters. Coordinating with Ferrets Across America and Save Our Shelters to obtain temporary housing for displaced ferrets. Accepting donations of goods and services aimed at ferrets. **Requests for temporary ferret housing/support.

FACT will be setting up a dedicated Katrina Ferret Relief Fund. Details to follow.

Further FACT is coordinating a group of volunteers to monitor various internet based newsgroups, websites and blogs for ferret specific requests for information or support including lost/found, fostering, vet needs. To volunteer for this group, please contact the FACT webmaster.

ASPCA Will be providing on site emergency support. Broadly focused organization with an extensive background in disaster relief. Website provides a lot of information. **Evacuee Resources/Temporary Shelters.
International Fund for Animal Welfare- IFAW Broad based animal welfare organization. On site. Focus on rescue and reuniting pets with owners.
American Humane Association Broad based animal welfare organization, On site. Focus on rescue and reuniting pets with owners.
Best Friends Animal Society Broad based animal welfare organization. On site.
Petfinder Updated NEWS on animal rescue efforts. **Forum of resources, postings seeking animals, offering shelter & support.
Craigslist Information Source. Has listings of resources, volunteer opportunities, pet information by the cities served. Affected areas highlighted in red.
PetsAnimals.org Compiling list to direct to on-site relief agencies. **To Report Animals Left Behind contact Pets  Animals in Distress at: contact@petsandanimals.org or call (954) 202-9991. They are compiling a list of animals that need to be rescued to pass on to affiliate relief organizations, rescue groups shelters and volunteers in those areas who are already on the ground rescuing stranded animals. Be prepared to provide the following info: a) Contact/ Owners name; b) Contact phone numbers / e-mail address c) Address where the animals are; d) Name(s) of animal(s) e) Description of animal(s).

PuppymillRescue 2005 Has established Katrina Found Pets website to gather and disseminate information on lost/found pets and to apply to foster animals. WEBMASTER NOTE: Do not currently know if they are accepting ferret foster applications or if they are working directly or indirectly with any of the area ferret groups or IFC.
